Continue to write about photo session for pupils Yearbook from elementary school.
The beginning of the story is here. This part is devoted to the reportage from the lessons in classroom. I have covered a lessons of English and Russian languages. I tried “to catch the live moments”. There is no much difficulty for me while this set. The only difficulty when shooting reportage in a classroom at school is the light. Light (illumination) in the classroom usually is very difficult. It has different “color” (temperature). The light in a classroom is mixed of artificial (fluorescent) lighting and the daylight from the windows. The human eye can adapt to such mixed light, but the camera is not. The proportion of daylight (DL) and artificial light (AL) is approximate like this:
- in the row of desks next to the window – 80% DL, 20% of AL
- in the middle row of desks – 50% DL, 50% of AL
- in the row of desks at the wall – 20% DL, 80% AL
And it turns out that the wide plan photos have different colors on faces… So I have to fix it later in post-processing. In very complex situations I have to process photographs into black & white.
There is a way to avoid such light mixing – to use the flash (or multiple flashes), but I tried to use it very rarely. Flash can divert attention of pupils and “break the atmosphere of the situation”…
Not sure which one of my customers is interested in this information, but I had to write something… :)))
So, here is the part 2 – “in a classroom” report.
